At least 600 Google employees — less than 0.5% of its massive workforce — drafted a manifesto opposing the company's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, CNBC reported Tuesday.

The Biden administration ordered companies with more than 100 employees to require workers to be fully vaccinated by January 4, 2022. In response, Google imposed a mandate for its more than 150,000 US employees to be vaccinated, whether or not they are in-office or remote, by December 3.

"Vaccines are key to our ability to enable a safe return to office for everyone and minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our communities," Google VP of Security Chris Rackow said in an October email, according to the CNBC report.

CNBC reported hundreds of Google employees signed and circulated the manifesto, asking company executives to retract the vaccine mandate and create a new one that is 'inclusive of all Googlers' and calling on employees to "oppose the mandate as a matter of principle."

Representatives from Google did not immediately return Insider's request for comment.
