The Windows 11 update is almost here and Taiwanese tech giant Asus is working on a way to upgrade your old PC to the upcoming version of Windows. This should come as a relief to many PC users who have an Asus motherboard.

The new firmware for Asus motherboards would allow users to upgrade to Windows 11 without any modifications in the motherboard settings in the BIOS. It is worth noting that at the moment, Asus is working on firmware updates for Intel motherboards. AMD motherboards will likely be worked upon later.

It’s worth noting that the Strix Z270F motherboard supports Intel’s 7th generation processors – also known as Kaby Lake. Apart from this, the Intel Celeron G3900 and sixth-gen Intel Core i3 6098P processor are also supported by the Z270F motherboard.

It is worth pointing out that these firmware updates are still in beta and could likely be buggy, so proceed with caution.

Microsoft has outlined some of the minimum hardware requirements to run Windows 11. This includes:

  • Compatible 64-bit processor.
  • 4GB memory.
  • 64GB storage.
  • UEFI secure boot.
  • TPM 2.0 support.
Microsoft did not specify the exact graphics requirements yet, but it is likely that we will know more details in this regard in the coming days and weeks.

Microsoft will allow installing Windows 11 on unsupported computers

Microsoft has confirmed that there is a way that users with unsupported computers will be able to install Windows 11, but they will have to deal with a major security risk.

The news comes after a major backlash against Microsoft’s decision to not support Intel processors older than the 8th generation, or AMD processors older than Ryzen 2nd gen.

Recently, Microsoft added support for the Intel Core i7 7820HQ processor, primarily because it meets the security requirements, and is also used in the Surface Studio 2. In addition to this, Microsoft also added the Intel Core X and Xeon W series to its list of supported processors.
