Apple's next generation of iPhones could feature as much as a 15% boost to battery life, according to a report from ITHome.

The unconfirmed leak suggests that the iPhone 15 base model could feature a 15% increase to its battery life. The iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max could see 12%, 12%, and 11% improvements, respectively.

Jacklyn Dallas, a video creator who reviews tech products on her YouTube channel, NothingButTech, told Insider that battery packs are one area of smartphones that haven't seen much innovation relative to other software developments. That means any updates could present an opportunity for Apple.

"Screentime has gotten better and cameras have gotten better, but smartphones still really only last a day, so increased capacity would really be a good thing," she said.

The tech giant's most recent release, the iPhone 14, offered marginal increases in battery life, they were not as significant as the jumps seen with the previous iPhone 13 model.

To be sure, the initial source said the information may not be fully accurate. The news broke via a private message on ITHome Weibo, and the source claimed to be an insider of Foxconn.

Still, Dallas said if the rumor turns out to be true, she doesn't expect it to impact pricing that much, though it's possible Apple leans into more battery-specific marketing.

"I don't see this as being that drastic, like your phone going from one day of battery to two days," she explained. "It will probably just add a couple of hours, which is still a good thing."

Apple did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, which was submitted outside of normal work hours.
