The new iPhone will come with various updates, but the most notable will apparently be its new charging port.

Apple's Lightning charging cable may soon become obsolete now that Apple's iPhone 15 is set to feature a USB-C charging port.

The device is expected to release on Sept. 12 — and its new charging cord could make borrowing a friend's charger a little more difficult.

The company had faced mounting pressure since 2020 from the European Union to make the change to USB-C charging ports, but it pushed back.

In 2022, the EU agreed on legislation that would require all smartphones sold there to have universal charging ports by fall 2024. India passed a similar mandate in December of the same year. The countries settled on the USB-C, which Apple already uses to charge its latest Macbook and iPad models.

Now, it appears Apple is set to make the change to USB-C to its iPhone charging globally.

The charging change also extends to the latest model of AirPods, according to Bloomberg. The new AirPods Pro will reportedly also feature the USB-C charging port instead of a Lightning port.

Although you won't be able to borrow a charger from owners of older iPhones, there are many non-Apple devices that also use USB-C cords for power.
