Apple's new iOS 17 has a feature that will warn people when someone attempts to send them unsolicited nudes.

Apple said in a press release that the Sensitive Content Warning would help adult users avoid seeing unwanted nude images and videos. The company would not get access to the content as processing for the new feature occurred on the user's device, the press release added.

The tech giant is also expanding Communication Safety, a feature aimed at protecting children, to cover sending and receiving content via AirDrop, Contact Posters, and FaceTime messages. The privacy feature will also expand to cover video content, as well as images.

The new iOS 17 was announced on Monday, alongside Apple's new mixed-reality headset, the Vision Pro.

The operating system brings with it several updates, including two new features called Journal and StandBy.

"With iOS 17, we've made iPhone more personal and intuitive by deeply considering the features we all rely on every day," Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, said in the press release.

Apple's Journal app is aimed at helping users write journal entries, using machine learning to offer personalized suggestions for entries.

The StandBy feature turns an iPhone into a smart display that looks similar to the Amazon Echo Show. The feature will show information like the weather and calendar events in a "glanceable" way while the phone is on its side.

Meanwhile, a new Messages feature called Check In will allow users to provide real-time location updates.

Representatives for Apple did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, made outside normal working hours.
