Last year, Meta took the world by storm by unveiling the Ray-Ban smart glasses that lets users carry out a number of activities with ease. From talking to Meta AI to capturing what you see with the help of an in-built camera, the glasses felt something straight out of a James Bond film. Now, Apple is also reportedly working on smart glasses similar to the Meta Ray-Ban. Additionally, the Cupertino-based tech giant is also working on AirPods featuring built-in cameras.

However, it is to be noted that Apple hasn’t officially confirmed the existence of these products and hence this information should be taken with a pinch of salt.

According to a report by Bloomberg, these innovative products could hit the market by 2027, adding to Apple’s growing lineup of vision-based technology, which began with the launch of the Apple Vision Pro headset.

About Apple’s smart glasses

The smart glasses, as mentioned already, are likely to come equipped with built-in cameras, speakers, and microphones. While the glasses may not offer a full augmented reality (AR) experience, they will likely allow users to capture photos and videos with ease and offer basic smart functionalities. This concept mirrors Meta’s approach, where hands-free video recording and other features have proven popular among users.

However, Apple’s smart glasses are expected to come with a higher price point than Meta’s Ray-Ban models, which start at $299. Given Apple’s reputation for high-end, premium products, the pricing for these glasses may reflect the company’s focus on quality craftsmanship and advanced technology.

Camera-equipped AirPods

In an even more ambitious move, Apple is reportedly experimenting with integrating cameras into future AirPods models. While the specifics of how these camera-enabled AirPods would function remain unclear, the idea presents some unique challenges.

Unlike smart glasses, which naturally sit at eye level and can easily capture photos or videos, AirPods would require a creative design solution to avoid being cumbersome or awkward for users. Whether this concept will come to fruition, and how Apple might innovate in this space, remains to be seen.

Apple has been gradually integrating more visual intelligence features across its devices, from improvements in the iPhone 16’s camera system to the Apple Vision Pro.

About the Apple Vision Pro

The Vision Pro, introduced in June 2023, marked Apple’s first major step into the world of mixed reality (MR). Touted as the most advanced AR headset on the market, the Vision Pro combines AR and VR to offer immersive digital experiences.

Although the headset generated significant excitement upon its announcement, its steep price tag—starting at $3,499—has kept it out of reach for many consumers. Early reviews praised the Vision Pro’s technical prowess, but some questioned whether mainstream users would adopt such an expensive device.

Apple’s reported development of more accessible vision-related products like smart glasses and AirPods with cameras suggests that the company is aiming to broaden its reach within the market. While these products may still be a few years away, they could represent Apple’s next major leap in integrating visual intelligence into everyday consumer technology.
