A faster new Apple TV could be in Apple's pipeline.

Apple recently released the developer beta for the latest version of the software that powers the Apple TV, called tvOS 13.4, and files within the software included a reference to what could be a new Apple TV model, according to 9to5Mac, which discovered the code.

The software suggests that a new Apple TV model with the codename "T1125" could be in the works that's based on the same architecture as Apple's A12 and A13 Bionic chips. The A12 Bionic processor powers Apple's iPhone XS and iPhone XR line, while the newer A13 Bionic chip can be found in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro.

Apple did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

Apple hasn't launched a new Apple TV since it released the 4K-enabled model back in September 2017 alongside the iPhone X. That model runs on Apple's A10X Fusion chip, the same processor that powers Apple's 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models that were released more than two years ago in June 2017.

Releasing a new Apple TV model with a processor that's just as fast as Apple's current iPhones could help the company make the experience feel more consistent across all of its products. Having a more powerful Apple TV could also be important for Apple as it ramps up its subscription video game service, Apple Arcade, which it released in the fall of 2019.

If Apple is planning to release a new Apple TV, it's unclear when it might do so. However, there's a chance we could see something new from Apple in March or June, as the company has been known to release new products in the early spring and at its Worldwide Developers Conference.

A new Apple TV is one of several gadgets the tech giant is expected to launch this year. Apple is also rumored to be working on Tile-like accessories to help you find lost items known as AirTags; a new iPad Pro with more powerful cameras; and a premium pair of over-ear headphones. And, of course, the company's new 5G-enabled iPhone lineup is expected to debut this fall.
