The owner of a well-known X account said he is "super pissed" after the company appeared to take his handle and told him it would now be "affiliated with X Corp."

Jeremy Vaught, who runs an account with the handle "@music," which had 455,000 followers, shared an email from the company formerly known as Twitter saying his handle would be removed.

The page, which was formerly labeled Twitter Music, now has Vaught's old handle and is labeled as an affiliate of X.

In the email, which Vaught shared on X, the site said his account would be renamed to "@musicfan" and that his prior followers and data would be transferred over.

He said X gave him other alternatives to choose from, including "@musicmusic," "@music123," and "@musiclover" — all handles already in use by other X accounts.

"16 years ago, I created @music and have been running it ever since. Just now, Twitter / X just ripped it away," Vaught tweeted.

"Super pissed."

Twitter's rebrand to X last month has left a legacy of old intellectual property related to the company's previous bird-based branding.

X's "@music" account is one of several that has had to hastily rebrand from its affiliation with Twitter, along with "@Twittermovies," which is now "@movies." There was some excitement among users that the account might be given a name linked to the platform's new name, X, which would, in turn, lead to it sharing a name with a well-known pornographic site.

The removal of "@music" comes a week after the company took away the "@x" user handle from the user Gene X Hwang with no notice.

In an email similar to Vaught's, the company told Hwang that his handle would now be associated with X Corp.

The company offered him an exclusive visit to X headquarters to meet members of the company's team and offered him X merchandise.

Representatives for X didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
