  • Amazon has launched Prime Video Mobile Edition at ₹599 per year.
  • Users can watch and download their favourite shows and movies in Standard Definition (SD).
  • Users can subscribe to this plan through the Prime Video App on Android or via primevideo.com.
With more customers flocking to online streaming channels, Amazon has launched a Prime Video Mobile Edition to make streaming more affordable and accessible. It announced a single-user subscription plan for ₹599 per year that will only work on mobiles. This initiative makes it easy to access varied content, from movies to matches, anywhere and at any time.

The mobile-only Prime video plan was introduced last year in partnership with Bharti Airtel but was accessible to its telecom users only. This time the Amazon Prime Video Mobile edition is available for all, and users can watch premium entertainment in Standard Definition (SD) quality.

Users will have access to existing Prime Video features, like X-ray powered by IMDb, downloads for offline viewing, Indian and international movies, Amazon Originals, LIVE cricket and more. Users can thus browse and binge-watch different types of content from the comfort of their mobile phones.

Android users can simply subscribe to the plan through the Prime Video application or can also buy the annual plan from the website 'primevideo.com'.

The vice president of Prime Video India, Gaurav Gandhi, said, “Over the last 6 years, we have seen huge growth for Prime Video in India. With viewers from 99% of the country’s pin codes, the service has become the preferred destination for premium content. Guided by our mission of making high-quality entertainment even more accessible across the country, we are excited to launch Prime Video Mobile Edition’s annual plan. This worldwide-first innovation saw an incredible response from Indian consumers when we launched via a telecom association last year, and building on that success, we are extending its access, with it now being made available directly for subscription through Prime Video’s app and website.”

Kelly Day, the vice president of International Prime Video commented on the launch and said, “India is one of our fastest growing and most engaged locales worldwide. Our success in the country can be attributed to innovations that are focused on creating an exceptional entertainment experience for customers. In fact, India is turning into an innovation hub for Prime Video. An initiative like Prime Video Mobile Edition, which had its genesis in India, is now being rolled out across multiple countries in Latin America and South East Asia. We are confident that the new Prime Video Mobile Edition annual plan will further help accelerate the growth of our India business and give an even larger customer base access to high-quality content on the service. With this launch, we look forward to entertaining every Indian with our popular on-demand entertainment content and live sports.”

Prime Video Mobile edition is the latest addition to OTT platforms offering mobile-only plans. And it is definitely a step forward in making online streaming, in different languages, more easily accessible for Indian consumers.
