A TikTok user came across a strange Amazon ad, but the e-commerce giant says it has nothing to do with it

  • YouTuber Eddy Burback spotted a strange ad on TikTok that appeared to be from Amazon.
  • Amazon says it had nothing to do with the video and is "looking into it with TikTok."
  • The video features roasts interrupted by an "apple bottom jeans" edit inspired by Flo Rida's "Low."

A TikTok user spotted a strange Amazon ad on the platform the other day - only it wasn't actually an Amazon ad.

YouTuber Eddy Burback tweeted a screen recording of the purported ad on Wednesday.

"This was an amazon ad I got on tik tok???" he wrote. "This is 100% real I just recorded it."

Amazon says it wasn't involved in distributing the video.

"These are not official Amazon ads," the company told Insider. "We're looking into it with TikTok."

In the video, an animated character is jumping across various planks in a game, trying not to fall.

With its audio, the clip tags onto a trend of videos featuring characters with automated voices insulting, or "roasting" each other. After the metaphorical mic drop of each roast, a popular edit of Flo Rida's "Low" plays, blasting "Apple bottom jeans."

In the first instance in the screen recording, for example, a robotic male voice says, "You failed the test," to which an automated female voice retorts, "You failed to educate me." Video of the "apple bottom jeans" edit then cuts into the gameplay.

The strange conversation continues with the male-voiced character saying his grandmother died and the female-voiced character offering her condolences. The male voice then says, "I have a gf [girlfriend]," with the video's captions showing a rolling-eye emoji after his statement. The female voice replies, "And I have a grandma," before the video cuts to the "apple bottom jeans" edit again.

The banner for the ad at the bottom of the video shows the Amazon app icon and reads, "Shop our favorites for the home!" At the end of the roughly 30-second video, a screen pops up that shows the icon again, as well as the Amazon logo on a phone. It says, "Enjoy exclusive benefits when you shop with the Amazon app."

Burback tweeted that clicking on the Amazon handle on the TikTok video brought him to search results for "revealhome1" in the Amazon app. The results include things like a marble cutting board and a three-piece set of glass jars.
