2 attorneys in Bill and Melinda Gates' divorce also worked on Jeff Bezos' split in 2019
- Two attorneys who worked on Jeff Bezos' divorce are now working on Bill and Melinda Gates' split.
- Bill Gates' lawyer Ted Billbe represented Bezos' ex-wife MacKenzie Scott.
- Sherri Anderson, who represented Bezos, is now representing Melinda Gates.
Two of the attorneys who are working on Bill and Melinda Gates' divorce case also worked on the 2019 divorce of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott.
Ted Billbe, who represented Scott in her divorce from Bezos, will represent Bill Gates in his case, CNN first reported. Sherri Anderson, who previously represented Bezos, will represent Melinda Gates.
Bill and Melinda Gates said on Monday that they were splitting up after 27 years of marriage as they "no longer believe we can grow together," in a statement Bill Gates shared on Twitter.
The couple never signed a prenup, according to divorce filings first shared by TMZ, and are dividing their property and debts according to a separation contract instead.
The divorce settlement could be one of the largest ever with Bill Gates' net worth at an estimated $146 billion, according to Bloomberg.
Billbe and Anderson don't list each other as partners on their websites but work in the same office in Bellevue, Washington. Court documents list a different address for Billbe, CNN said.
Anderson deals with many aspects in divorce cases, including those that can't be resolved through the settlement process, according to her website.
Billbe's website says the majority the cases his law firm handles are divorces and that he "works in high asset cases" and cases with "substantial family wealth."
Bezos and Scott announced in 2019 they were getting divorced after a 25-year marriage. Scott walked away with millions of Amazon shares worth an estimated $38 billion.
Another of Melinda Gates' lawyers is Robert Cohen who previously worked for former President Donald Trump's first two wives, Ivana Trump and Marla Maples.
