The Vivo X80 Pro is the latest flagship from the company that gave us one of the first smartphones with in-display fingerprint sensors, pop-up selfie cameras, thin bezels and more. It promises a rich, premium flagship experience in all aspects – performance, new technologies, cameras and more.

The Vivo X80 Pro is the sum of the best that Vivo has to offer when it comes to smartphones. This is a premium smartphone that is not shy of showing just how premium it is – right from the big display on the front to the back that feels rich to hold, to the large camera module that shows off that Vivo has gone all out when it comes to the optics.

I have been using the Vivo X80 Pro for a few weeks now and here is my detailed review.

Vivo X80 Pro – price and availability

The Vivo X80 Pro price in India is ₹79,999 and it comes in a single configuration with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It also comes in only one colour – Cosmic Black. It can be purchased from Vivo’s online store, Flipkart and other official retail partners across the country.

Bold and premium design

Vivo’s smartphone designs have always been good, right from the budget segment to this premium flagship segment. That tradition continues with the Vivo X80 Pro, too.

The Vivo X80 Pro is a big smartphone that has bold elements – like the large camera module on the back, married to a design that is reserved everywhere else. This helps the cameras stand out unabashedly, showing off the single biggest selling point of the X80 Pro with absolutely no reservations.

Overall, the phone feels great to hold, thanks to the premium material used on the back. The matte finish along with the curved sides make it easy to grip the phone.

This is a smartphone that you want to show off, proving that it’s not just the iPhones that deserve the attention regardless of how much they cost.

Eye-catching and bright display

The Vivo X80 Pro sports a large 6.78-inch Quad HD+ resolution E5 AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of a whopping 1,500 nits and support for 10-bit HDR.

Rounding off the premium package is support for variable refresh rate, all the way from 1Hz to 120Hz. This helps the phone preserve battery life based on what you’re doing.

Overall, the Vivo X80 Pro display is amongst the best I have seen on smartphones. It is bright enough to be easily readable under direct sunlight, the colour reproduction is accurate and the high refresh rate is consistent most of the time.

Blazing fast performance

The Vivo X80 Pro is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, paired with 12GB of memory and 256GB of storage. Vivo also has an option to expand the memory by 4GB temporarily using the internal storage, but I never noticed any slowdowns despite multitasking and gaming a lot.

Speaking of multitasking, the X80 Pro handles it with ease. I also gamed quite a lot on the phone, playing several graphics intensive games like Apex Legends Mobile, Asphalt 9: Legends, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Battlegrounds Mobile India.

The phone handled everything I threw at it without breaking a sweat. It managed to run all the games at max settings with no stutters. The phone also did not get hot despite extended gaming sessions.

One feature that deserves a call out is the game interpolation feature which can be enabled manually to allow you to run Call of Duty: Mobile at 90Hz. This is something that not every phone is capable of, and the X80 Pro didn’t flinch a bit.

Powering the phone is a 4,700mAh battery, which lasted me a day with 15-20% juice still left, on average. The X80 Pro supports 80W fast charging and comes with the charger in the box. It can charge the phone from 0-100% in about 40 minutes. It also supports up to 50W wireless charging – but the fast 50W speeds require Vivo’s proprietary wireless charger.

Stunning cameras

The Vivo X80 Pro sports a quad camera setup on the back, with a 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilisation, a 48MP ultrawide angle snapper, a 12MP telephoto camera with Vivo’s gimbal stabilisation and an 8MP periscope camera with OIS and 5x optical zoom. Vivo has teamed up with Carl Zeiss for fine-tuning its optics.

In daylight conditions, the Vivo X80 Pro captures excellent images with accurate colour reproduction and good dynamic range. This is mostly true even in low and artificial light conditions, where the noise in images is usually negligible.

In night mode, too, the noise is barely noticeable unless you are actively hunting for it.

Vivo has also bundled plenty of features in the camera app, giving you options for serious as well as fun photography – you get pro mode features that allow you to experiment with a wide range of settings, to fun stuff like filters and styles.

Wrapping up

The Vivo X80 Pro is filled to the brim with features and offers a rich, premium package that is well worth the asking price. From the design to performance to photography, Vivo has left no stone unturned and it can boast of going head to head with the likes of Apple and Samsung.

Vivo X80 Pro’s competitors include the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the iPhone 13. Another option to consider is the OnePlus 10 Pro if your budget is a little lower.
