Samsung unveils new foldable phones, Galaxy Watch 4 series and Galaxy Buds 2 wireless earbuds

Samsung today launched its next generation of foldable smartphones, smartwatches and truly wireless earbuds. The Korean tech giant unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, the Galaxy Watch 4 series of smartwatches and the Galaxy Buds 2 at the Samsung Unpacked 2021 event.

The latest generation of Samsung’s foldable smartphones features several usability and durability improvements – clearly based on learnings from the first two generations.

Apart from this, Samsung has also brought its popular S Pen stylus to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which seems like a logical next step given the vast screen real estate available on this foldable smartphone.

The other highlight is the new Galaxy Watch 4 series, which runs on the new Wear OS 3 operating system with Samsung’s One UI design.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 – features, specifications and more

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 features a 7.6-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED display on the inside and a 6.2-inch AMOLED with 832 x 2,260 pixels resolution on the outside. Both the displays come with a 120Hz resolution and feature Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

The Z Fold 3 features a triple 12MP camera setup on the back and a 10MP selfie camera. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, which is paired with 12GB of RAM with up to 512GB of storage. It is powered by a 4,400mAh battery and features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 has been priced at $1,799.99 (approx. ₹1,33,650) and will be available in Phantom Black, Phantom Green, and Phantom Silver colour options from August 27. We should know more about the Indian pricing and availability soon.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 sports a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED display, alongside a much larger 1.9-inch secondary display, making it a lot more useful than the 1.1-inch display on the previous generation Z Flip,

The Z Flip 3 has two 12MP cameras on the back and a 10MP camera on the inside, for selfies and video calling. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, which is paired with 8GB of RAM with up to 256GB of storage. It has a 3,300mAh battery and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The Samsung Z Flip 3 has been priced starting at $999.99 (approx. ₹75,260) and will be available in Cream, Green, Lavender and Phantom Black colours starting from August 27. We should know more about the Indian pricing and availability soon.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series – combining Wear OS and One UI

The Galaxy Watch 4 series is amongst the first to run the new Wear OS 3 operating system with One UI on top. Samsung and Google have come together to breathe a fresh lease of life into the stagnant Wear OS ecosystem, and the Galaxy Watch 4 series might just be what Google needs.

There are two models in the series – Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The standard model comes in two sizes – 40mm and 44mm, while the Classic comes in 42mm and 46mm sizes. The display size is 1.19-inch for the smaller versions and 1.36-inch for the larger one.

Powering the Galaxy Watch 4 is Samsung’s new Exynos W920 chipset, paired with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, which might seem way more than adequate for a smartwatch.

In terms of features, the Galaxy Watch 4 series has an accelerometer, barometer, gyro, geomagnetic and light sensors. It supports optical and electronic heart rate tracking (electrocardiogram), impedance analysis, among other things.

The smartwatch is powered by a 247mAh and 361mAh battery for the small and large version, respectively.

The Galaxy Watch 4 has been priced starting at $249.99 (approx. ₹18,560) for the Bluetooth variant and the LTE model starts at $299.99 (approx. ₹22,270).

The Galaxy Watch Classic starts at $349.99 (approx. ₹26,000) for the Bluetooth variant and $399.99 (approx. ₹29,700) for the LTE variant.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 – features, price and more

Samsung also launched the Galaxy Buds 2, the company’s latest truly wireless earbuds. It features an in-ear design and comes with active noise cancellation, which the company claims can cancel 98 percent of external noise.

The Galaxy Buds 2 features three microphones and uses machine learning to improve your calling experience. The company has promised a battery life of up to 5 hours with active noise cancellation enabled and this can be extended up to 20 hours with the charging case.

It has been priced at $149.99 (approx. ₹11,140) and will be available in Lavender, Olive, White and Black color options from August 27 in select markets. There is no information about its Indian launch and price at the moment.
