Samsung Galaxy S22 series: launch date, specifications and everything you need to know

Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone Galaxy S22 series is expected to be launched in February, 2022. The launch of the smartphones which was supposed to take place in January has been reportedly delayed as the company plans to launch the Galaxy S21 FE smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022.

While not much is known officially about the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, there have been rumours and leaks doing the rounds that give us some idea about what we can expect from the upcoming smartphones. Let’s have a look at everything we know so far about Samsung’s next flagship devices.

Display

According to rumours, the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ are likely to have slightly smaller displays than their predecessors, S21 and S21+, featuring approximately a 6.1-inch and a 6.5-inch screen, respectively. The Ultra version of the series will feature the largest display of the three at 6.8-inch. All the three phones are expected to support 120Hz refresh rate.

Camera

In terms of the sensors, the base model, Galaxy S22, and the Galaxy S22+, are rumored to feature a 10MP telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom and a 50MP primary lens. While the Ultra model is likely to have the 108MP lens similar to its predecessor.

For selfies, the S22 and S22+ will have the same 10MP selfie camera as their predecessor, while the S22 Ultra will feature a 40MP sensor. The phones might also see Samsung adopt the sensor-shift camera technology that can enhance the image quality and improve stabilization.

Design

Rumours suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ may feature a polycarbonate back while the S22 Ultra will have a Gorilla glass back. The unofficial renders of S22 Ultra hint that it may feature a built-in S Pen slot and square corners. The camera housing on the S22 and S22+ are likely to be similar to their predecessors.

Hardware

The phones are expected to be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2200 chipset, while the Qualcomm’s latest chipset, Snapdragon 898, may power it in some markets including India, which is interesting as India usually gets the Exynos powered flagship devices from Samsung. According to early benchmark tests, the Exynos-powered S22 scored better than the Snapdragon-powered S22.

The batteries in the S22 and S22+ are likely to be smaller, with reports saying they may feature 3,700mAh and 4,500mAh batteries, respectively. While the S22 Ultra is likely to feature a large 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging support.

You should note that these are rumours and speculations and not official specifications. While some of them might be realised in upcoming devices, there might be some changes at the time of launch.
