  • The Oppo Reno 7 Pro is the company’s latest premium offering in the camera-centric Reno series.
  • It is now available for purchase starting today, alongside the more affordable Reno 7.
  • Instead of relying only on the camera, Oppo has given the Reno 7 Pro a boost in a few other aspects as well.
  • Here are our first impressions of the Reno 7 Pro.

The Reno 7 Pro is the latest premium offering from Oppo in India and was launched along with the vanilla Reno 7. Like most of its predecessors in the Reno series, camera capabilities remain the star attraction of the Reno 7 Pro, too. But this time around, the Reno 7 Pro promises to offer a much more rounded smartphone experience instead of relying only on the camera.

To begin with, the Reno 7 Pro’s camera module stands out thanks to the protruding and large, squarish design. This should come as no surprise since these types of designs are the rage these days across the smartphone industry.

There’s an extremely nice touch that Oppo has given to this module, but we’ll get to that later below.

Oppo Reno 7 Pro price and availability

The Oppo Reno 7 Pro has been priced at ₹39,999 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB internal storage variant. It is available in Startrails Blue and Starlight Black colour options.

Oppo might be touting the camera performance of the Reno 7 Pro, and for good reason, at least on paper – the phone comes equipped with a 50MP camera with a flagship Sony IMX766 sensor, accompanied by an 8MP wide-angle snapper and a 2MP macro camera.

The glowing LED strip looks is an eye-catcherRounak Jain

But as far as first impressions go, the first thing that caught my eye was the LED strip around the camera module – it glows whenever the phone is put on charge or there is a new notification. If you are not a big fan of it, though, you can turn it off.

Beyond that, the glass back feels good to hold, and the finish ensures that it doesn’t attract fingerprints. Oppo has used a laser process to create micro-etches that reflect differently at different angles, so the colours in different areas of the back glass look slightly different from each other, giving the phone a playful look.

The front of the phone is taken up by the 6.55-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel. While the display looks bright and the colour reproduction is very good, the refresh rate is capped at 90Hz. At this price point, a 120Hz panel would have been better.

The Reno 7 Pro has an aluminium frame running around the sides. The design is blocky, but the display glass is ever so slightly tapered on the edges, so if you use gestures for navigation, swiping will still be comfortable.

First impressions

The Reno 7 Pro sports an eye-catching design, from the camera module to the LED notification light, to the glass back panel with micro etches. Given Reno’s design language and target audience, Oppo has done a good job and maintained consistency, all things considered.

However, the Reno 7 Pro will still have to compete with some powerful counterparts in this price segment, like the OnePlus 9R, Xiaomi 11T Pro 5G, or the Galaxy S20 FE 5G from last year. Does it stand a chance? We’ll find that out in our full review coming soon.
