OnePlus confirms Nord 2 will have a new chipset that will give users a better camera and gaming experience

• The OnePlus Nord 2 will succeed the original Nord that was launched last year.
• However, unlike the original Nord, the Nord 2 will be powered by a MediaTek chipset instead of a Qualcomm one.
• OnePlus says that the artificial intelligence (AI) features of the MediaTek chipset will help enhance imaging and gaming experiences, among other things.

OnePlus Nord 2 has officially been confirmed today after several leaks and rumours, including the leaked renders last month that gave us a clear look at the upcoming OnePlus smartphone.

One of the biggest changes as far as OnePlus’ India strategy is concerned is the decision to use a MediaTek chipset instead of a Qualcomm one. The Nord 2 will be powered by the Dimensity 1200-AI chipset. Earlier reports suggest that it could be offered in a 8GB RAM version.

The OnePlus Nord 2 will be another mid-range smartphone from the company.

Going by the leaked OnePlus Nord 2 renders, OnePlus seems to be continuing with the design language that is seen on the OnePlus 9 series. The rear camera module sports a prominent look, with noticeable outlines for the two main cameras.

OnePlus Nord 2 specifications – what we know so far

Some benchmarks suggest that the Dimensity 1200’s performance is comparable with the Snapdragon 865.

In terms of imaging, the triple camera module on the back could house a 50MP primary camera along with an 8MP ultrawide angle snapper and a 2MP depth sensor. The punch-hole notch on the front of the phone could house a 32MP selfie camera.

OnePlus is banking on the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of the Dimensity 1200-AI chipset, for imaging, gaming and more.

There’s no 3.5mm audio jack to be seen in these renders. Notably, OnePlus had brought it back with the Nord CE 5G. Other than that, reports suggest that the Nord 2 could be powered by a 4,500mAh battery.

With this, OnePlus is expanding its Nord line of affordable smartphones, after debuting the first phone in this series last year. More recently, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G was launched in India, starting at ₹24,999.
