The Nothing phone (1) is all set to launch in India on July 12 and ahead of the launch, popular YouTuber Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD has posted a hands-on video with the device, giving us another look at the device in motion and revealing how the notification LEDs at the back work.

Carl Pei-led Nothing Technologies is fuelling the hype around the device by showcasing the device.

The rear design of the Nothing phone (1) is already known as the company has showcased the design of the device. The company is continuing its transparent design philosophy that it came up with for its first product, the Nothing ear (1).

Nothing phone (1) notification LED – how do they work?


The main highlight of the Nothing phone (1) is the notification LEDs at the back. The company has used over 900 LEDs to make a pattern on the back. The company has dubbed this LED design as the Glyph Interface and offers a separate section in the settings to manage the LEDs.

The primary use of the LEDs on the Nothing phone (1) is to inform you about notifications. The rear LEDs light up when you get a notification.

Wireless charging

The LEDs around the wireless charging coil light up when you are wirelessly charging the device or using reverse wireless charging to charge another device using the Nothing phone (1).

Wired charging

Another interesting feature of the notification LEDs is that the bottom LEDs light up when you are using wired charging. The exclamation mark acts as a progress bar indicator, revealing the current battery level.

Cameras

When you are capturing photos or videos, you can use the Glyph Interface, which lights up completely to illuminate the subject. You also get a small red LED that lights up when you are recording a video.

Ringtones

The Nothing phone (1) comes with 10 built-in ringtones and they come with pre-set LED patterns, allowing you to set different ringtones with different LED patterns for contacts. Similarly, you will be able to set different notification tones for different apps.

The Nothing phone (1) is scheduled to launch in India on July 12 at 8:30 pm. The company is expected to soon start accepting pre-bookings for the device. Interested buyers will be able to book the device by paying ₹2,000.

At the moment, there is no information about the price of the device. It will be available exclusively from Flipkart in India.

Nothing phone (1) expected specifications


The Nothing phone (1) is expected to run on Android 12 out of the box with the company’s custom skin on top. We already have an idea about what the device’s UI will look like thanks to the Nothing Launcher.

The device is expected to feature a 6.55-inch OLED display with a 2400 x 1080 pixels resolution, HDR10+ support and a 90Hz resolution. It is expected to feature minimal side bezels and a small chin.

The device is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset coupled with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

The device is expected to feature a dual camera setup at the back and a 32MP selfie camera.

The device is expected to be powered by a 4,500mAh battery with fast charge support. It is expected to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor and offer a Type-C port for audio and charging.
