Restoring your iPhone required connecting it to a PC or Mac and restoring it using iTunes. However, this is set to change as Apple has introduced a new wireless restoration feature with the new iPhone 16 series.

According to a report by 9to5Mac, the iOS 18 firmware on the iPhone 16 devices includes RecoveryOS, which is already available with Apple Watch and Apple TV. At present, users can restore the firmware of their Apple Watch and Apple TV with an iPhone.

This is now being rolled out for the iPhone with the iPhone 16 series. The new capability will allow users to restore their iPhone 16 wirelessly, eliminating the need for a physical connection to a PC or Mac when facing boot loops or bricking.

The feature will allow iPhone 16 models to be restored from another iPhone or iPad running iOS 18 or iPadOS 18.

To use the wireless restore feature, iPhone 16 users will need to place their affected iPhone 16 next to another iPhone or iPad that is connected to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The second device will then download the iOS firmware and transfer it wirelessly to the affected iPhone. The iPhone 16 series is reportedly equipped with a dedicated recovery partition that manages this process, even if the main iOS partition fails to boot.

At the moment, it is not clear if the feature will be rolled out to older iPhone models.
