If you have an iPhone, you may not be able to use 5G before December

India announced the launch of 5G services in the country on October 1, telcos started the rollout of 5G services, with Airtel taking the lead and launching 5G on the same day across eight cities.Reliance Jio began the trial of 5G services in four cities on the occasion of Dussehra. If you have an Airtel or a Jio SIM and live in one of the cities where the telcos have started to offer 5G services, you will be able to use it, except if you have an iPhone.
As our earlier report mentioned, Apple has yet to roll out an update for enabling 5G services in its 5G supported devices in India. So, despite having a 5G supported device and living in an area covered by 5G, iPhone users are currently not able to use 5G services.
According to a report by Economic Times, this is not going to change anytime soon, and iPhone users may have to wait until December to use 5G. Apple has reportedly informed ET that an update to enable 5G services will be rolled out in December.
"We are working with our carrier partners in India to bring the best 5G experience to iPhone users as soon as network validation and testing for quality and performance are completed. 5G will be enabled via a software update and will start rolling out to iPhone users in December," Apple said in a statement to ET.

This comes when the Indian government has called for a meeting to discuss a speedy rollout of software updates to enable 5G services. Interestingly, Apple is one of the companies that has been asked to attend the meeting.
Smartphone makers such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Realme, Oppo and more have rolled out updates to enable 5G services on their devices. Major companies like OnePlus and Samsung have also started the rollout, with several of their devices already receiving updates.
