Compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 11, the iPhone 12 is 11% thinner, 15% smaller and 16% lighter, according to Apple. The iPhone 12 mini is also nothing more than a miniature version of the iPhone 12 — all the same features, just a smaller size.

The phones also come with an all new durability feature called the ‘Ceramic Shield’, developed in collaboration with Corning. According to the company, it's tougher than any other iPhone glass.
All four iPhones are powered using Apple’s latest A14 Bionic chipset. It’s the first smartphone chip built on 5 nanometer process technology. It has the ability to house 11.8 billion transistors.
Cameras on the iPhone 12 series
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini come with a dual-camera system featuring one ultra wide lens and a new wide camera with f/1.6 aperture.
The camera setup features a ‘seven-element’ lens, which Apple claims improves the camera’s low light performance by 27%.

The iPhone 12 Max and Max Pro come with a quad-camera setup — three lenses in the back and one in the front. The first two are the same as the iPhone 12 and third is a telephoto lens enabled with 4 times optical zoom.
The iPhone 12’s two bigger siblings also come with sensor shift technology to improve image stabilisation — it can cancel out things like car vibrations — and Apple Pro Raw, which allows editing of raw images directly on the iPhone.
When it comes to video recording, Apple marked another milestone for itself. The iPhone 12 Max and Max Pro are the first iPhone camera with HDR video recording capabilities. Globally, they will be the first phones to record specifically in Dolby Vision HDR. It has the capability to record in 4K with 60 frames per second (fps).

All the new iPhones launched will now come enabled with Night Mode to allow for low light photography. iPhone’s video capabilities have also been upgraded to include night mode time-lapse.
Brand-new LiDar scanner that can see in the dark
The Lidar scanner made its debut today and is only available on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The sensor is basically able to gauge its surroundings by reflecting light and calculates distance on how it takes for the light to bounce back.
It enables object and room scanning. It also makes object placement in augmented reality (AR) more accurate.
In the background, the LiDar scanner is also enabling better auto focus in photos and videos. Apple claims that auto focus is now six times faster in low light because of its new sensor.
