After foldable screens, 5G is all set to the next trend in the smartphone industry. While companies like Samsung, OnePlus and others have launched 5G smartphones already, there are few takers. That could change in 2020, with companies like Xiaomi, Nokia, Oppo and others announcing their 5G plans for 2020.

At the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit currently underway in Hawaii, smartphone makers Xiaomi, Nokia, Oppo, Motorola and others joined in and revealed their 5G plans for 2020. Other companies like OnePlus, Realme and Samsung are also expected to launch 5G smartphones powered by Qualcomm’s new 5G chipsets next year.

Top 5G smartphones to watch out for in 2020

All the top smartphone makers have either announced their 5G plans or are reportedly working on them. Here’s a look at the top smartphone makers you need to watch out for in 2020.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi has already laid out its 5G plans for 2020 in its earnings calls this year, with up to 10 5G smartphones in the pipeline. Now, it confirmed that its upcoming Redmi and Mi flagships that will support 5G.

While the Redmi K30 will be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 5G chipset, the Mi 10 will be powered by the Snapdragon 865 chipset. Redmi K30 is scheduled to launch on December 10, the Mi 10 is scheduled to launch in Q1 2020.

Nokia

HMD Global has announced that it will launch a Nokia 5G smartphone in 2020. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 765 5G chipset and feature PureDisplay, Zeiss optics and all-day battery life.

Oppo

Oppo’s next flagship smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset. This smartphone could likely be the successor of the Reno Ace. Oppo says that the launch is scheduled for Q1 2020.

Motorola

Lenovo-owned Motorola has also jumped into the 5G race and announced its comeback into the flagship smartphone segment. Motorola confirmed that it will launch 5G smartphones with the Snapdragon 865 as well as Snapdragon 765 chipsets.

Realme

Although India does not have the 5G infrastructure up and running yet, Realme has announced that it will launch a 5G smartphone in India in 2020.

Other smartphone makers like OnePlus, Samsung, Lenovo, ZTE and Vivo are also expected to launch 5G smartphones powered by Qualcomm’s new chipsets in 2020.
