The budget segment in India has been competitive over the last few years and Xiaomi has been dominating the market with its Redmi series. Vivo announced the U-series earlier this year with the launch of Vivo U10 to take on the Redmi series. To do this, Vivo has been pricing its devices very competitively and the U20 is no exception.
The Vivo U20 is priced at ₹10,990 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage variant and ₹11,990 for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. The company has been selling the devices in flash sales via Amazon India and the next sale is scheduled on December 12.
Camera
The main highlight of the Vivo U20 is its triple camera setup at the back. The device features a vertically aligned triple camera setup consisting of a 16-megapixel primary camera with Sony IMX499 sensor, f/1.78 aperture, an 8-megapixel 120-degree ultra-wide angle camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 2-megapixel macro sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The Vivo U20 is one of the cheapest smartphones to feature a triple camera setup in India.
On the front, the device sports a 16-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. The selfie camera is housed in a water-drop notch.
Performance
The Vivo U20 is equipped with the powerful octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset coupled with Adreno 612 GPU. The Snapdragon 675 is a decent chipset and should offer a good gaming experience. In terms of memory, the device features up to 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The device features a dedicated microSD card slot so the limited storage should not be a problem.
Display
The Vivo U20 runs on Android 9.0 Pie with Funtouch OS 9.1 skinned on top. Vivo has not revealed when the U20 will be upgraded to Android 10. It features a 6.53-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution display with a water-drop notch.
Battery and Connectivity
One of the most important features of a smartphone these days is battery life and Vivo has not compromised on this. The Vivo U20 features a huge 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charge support. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac, 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and a microUSB port.
