However, you can pay for Strava to unlock more features. This upgraded version is called Strava Summit, and costs $5.00 per month.
For the average user, the free version is probably all you need. However, if you're a Strava power-user, consider the Summit version.

The difference between the free and paid versions of Strava
Again, most Strava users will be fine with the free version.
The free version of Strava allows you to track your workouts and see stats for your running, biking, and swimming activity logs, as well as discover local clubs, fitness events, and challenges.
It also acts as a social media app for fitness, letting you give "kudos" to friends' posts, pictures and exercise logs.
There's also a paid version of Strava, called "Summit," in addition to the free version. Summit membership costs $59.99 a year, or about $5.00 per month. You can sign up in the app by toggling over to the "Summit" tab.
Strava Summit includes the following additional features:
- Set custom goals (weekly and yearly);
- Access training plans for running and cycling;
- Filter segment leaderboards by age and weight;
- Get race analysis and live performance data, as well as pace, workout, and effort analysis;
- Use "Beacon" to let an emergency contact access your real-time location;
- Find your custom heart rate zones;
- See personal heat maps of the places you've been active;
- Compare performance against other athletes;
- Understand your relative effort based on your heart rate data;
- Track your levels of fitness, freshness, and fatigue over time; and
- Get your real-time segment performance, as well as your personal record (P.R.) information.
Summit members also get access to perks like deals from brands and retailers, in addition to expedited customer support.
