It's Girl Scout cookie season, and if you're looking to get your hands on some sweet Samoas or crunchy Thin Mints, the official Girl Scout Cookie Finder app makes it easy to order cookies online or find out where and when local troops are selling.

What to know about the Girl Scout Cookie Finder app

The Cookie Finder app takes the Girl Scout cookie experience digital, making it even easier to support local troops in your area. Developed by Girl Scouts of the USA, the proceeds from sales go to the Girl Scout troop you order from - just like the traditional ordering process.

Quick tip: Cookie varieties will vary by market.

With the app, you can find information about the cookies available for purchase, send "gift boxes" of five or more cookies along with messages, and donate boxes to New York City Food Banks.

When you order online, you'll be sent a confirmation email and a tracking number to help you ensure your cookies arrive safely at your door. Shipping times are estimated to be anywhere between two and 15 days from purchase.

Tips for getting the most out of the Girl Scout Cookie Finder app

The Cookie Finder app doesn't just let you buy cookies. There are a host of other cool features and tools you can find on it. Here are a few you can see in the app's menu, which can be accessed using the lined icon in the top right.

  • Save your booth. If there's a specific booth that you want to return to and support, you can "add" it on the booth's profile page. It will be saved to your app bookmarks.
  • Mark your calendar. The Cookie Finder app posts when and where local sales are happening. Use the calendar icon on a booth's profile to add the event to your phone's calendar app.
  • Read recipes. You can make your favorite Girl Scout cookies at home with the recipes tab.
  • Get involved. If you want to do more with Girl Scouts beyond buying cookies, the Get Involved section helps you find a local council, buy from the girl scout shop, volunteer, or donate to the organization.

How to use the Cookie Finder app to buy cookies in-person

While the Girl Scout app helps bring your cookies straight to your door without having to fill out any forms, you can also use it to support your local troops the old-fashioned way by buying them in-person. To do this, scroll down to the "Buy cookies near me" section of the app. Here's how to use it.

  • Enter your zip code. Upon installing the app, you will need to enter your zip code to find local troops near you. Entering your zip code into the app helps the Cookie Finder pinpoint the closest cookie point.
  • Browse booths. If you'd rather identify a troop that you want to support versus finding one by location, select the "View more booth locations" option in the "Buy Cookies Near Me" section.
  • Sort booths by location, date, and map. If you'd prefer not to travel too far, you can use the location and map options to help you locate booths near you or that may be in an area you're visiting. And if you can't wait, use the time date filter. This will help you find out the times troops will be selling at locations near you.
