Apple Cash is a convenient financial service on your iPhone. You might use it to transfer money to other people via iMessages, and you can accrue cash back from your Apple Card, which pays up to 3% back on certain purchases. There are several ways to use the money in your Apple Cash account, but a common one is to transfer it to your bank account or to a Visa debit card.
How to transfer Apple Cash to your bank account
You can transfer some or all of your Apple Cash to your bank account. It takes one to three days for the transfer to complete, but it's completely free with no transfer fees.
- Start the Wallet app on your iPhone and then tap your Apple Cash card.
- Tap the three-dot menu at the top right of the screen.
- Tap "Transfer to Bank."
- Enter the amount you want to transfer. To move all the money to your bank, just tap "Next."
- Tap "1-3 Business Days." If you haven't completed your banking setup, follow the instructions now.
If necessary, confirm the transaction with your Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode.
The money should appear in your checking account in one to three days.
How to transfer Apple Cash to a debit card
If you prefer, you can transfer some or all of your Apple Cash to an eligible Visa debit card. This has the advantage of being an instant transfer, but you'll be charged a small fee (currently, it is 1% per transaction).
- Start the Wallet app on your iPhone and then tap your Apple Cash card.
- Tap the three-dot menu at the top right of the screen.
- Tap "Transfer to Bank."
- Enter the amount you want to transfer. To move all the money to your bank, just tap "Next."
- Tap "Instant transfer." If you haven't added a Visa debit card to your account yet, tap "Add Card" and follow the instructions to add one now.
- Select the debit card you want to transfer the money to.
- If necessary, confirm the transaction with your Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode.
The money should appear in your debit account within 30 minutes.
How to update your bank account information
If you change your bank account or otherwise need to update your account information, you can do that from the Apple Wallet.
- Start the Wallet app on your iPhone and then tap your Apple Cash card.
- Tap the three-dot menu at the top right of the screen.
- Tap "Bank Account."
- On the Bank Account page, tap the entry for your account.
- To edit the account number or routing number, tap the existing entry and then type the new information. Confirm the change and then tap "Next."
- You can also delete the account information entirely by tapping "Delete Bank Account Information" at the bottom of the page. Tap again to confirm you want to do this. Now you can enter new bank account information.
You only need to do this once; your banking information is automatically synchronized everywhere you use Apple Cash on all your Apple devices.
How to troubleshoot problems transferring money from Apple Cash
Most of the time, you should have no trouble transferring money from Apple Cash to a bank account or debit card. Sometimes, of course, things go wrong. Here are some things to watch for:
- If in doubt, check your statement. Check your bank or debit card statement to ensure the money was transferred as expected.
- Some delays are not unusual. Remember that it takes one to three days for cash to appear in your bank account (and 30 minutes for Visa debit card transfers). And watch the calendar - banks don't make transfers or deposits on weekends or on bank holidays.
- There are transfer limits. You can transfer up to $10,000 at once and as much as $20,000 within any seven-day period. If you reach either limit, you'll need to wait to transfer more.
- Transfers are only valid to banks in the US. You'll need a US-based bank to make transfers from Apple Cash.
- Is your phone up to date? If you're having trouble, make sure you have the latest version of iOS installed (or, if you're attempting the transfer on your iPad, check for the latest version of iPadOS.)
- Be sure you have connectivity. When attempting a transfer, make sure you have cellular or Wi-Fi service so the transfer can go through.
- Make sure your debit card is compatible with Apple Cash. If you're trying to transfer cash to a debit card, it needs to be an eligible Visa debit card. If in doubt, contact the company that issued your Visa debit card.
- Verify you entered the right banking information. Double-check that you entered the right account and routing numbers in your banking information. If you entered the wrong numbers, money may go to the wrong account.
- If all else fails, contact Apple Support. An Apple support technician may be able to help you troubleshoot the problem.
