How to share your Wi-Fi password from your Mac so guests can automatically connect to the internet
- You can share your Wi-Fi password from your Mac to anyone nearby, as long as they're on your Contacts list.
- The other user will also have to be using a Mac, iPhone, or iPad.
- When someone who meets the criteria tries to join your network, you'll be prompted to "Share" your Wi-Fi password with them.
Sharing your Wi-Fi password manually can be a pain - if you don't have your password memorized, you'll need to track down the paper on which it's written, and then your visitor has to carefully and exactly enter it.
Luckily, if you have a Mac, there's an easy, automatic way to share your password with another Mac, iPhone, or iPad - here's how.
How to share your Wi-Fi password on a Mac
1. Make sure that the person who wants to join your Wi-Fi network is in your Contacts app, including their Apple ID email.
2. Make sure you're currently logged into the Wi-Fi network you want to share, and bring the two devices close together, within Bluetooth range (as long as they're in the same room, it should work).
3. Have your friend go to their Wi-Fi settings on their device and choose the correct Wi-Fi network they'd like to connect to.
4. After a moment, you should see a pop-up window appear on your Mac asking you to share your Wi-Fi network password. Click "Share."
5. The other person's device should now automatically join the Wi-Fi network, without ever having to enter the password.
