Zelle is an app that allows you to send and receive money swiftly and securely.

If your bank or credit union has a partnership with Zelle, it's likely that you can send money to others through your mobile banking app alone. But you can also send money to your contacts using the Zelle app itself.

Here's how to do it.

How to send money with Zelle

Keep in mind that in order to send and receive money with the Zelle app, both the sender and the recipient must create Zelle accounts. As the sender, you'll need to give Zelle access to your mobile device's stored contacts. If the recipient you choose doesn't have a Zelle account yet, you will be prompted to invite them to make one. For the purposes of this guide, we'll assume that both you and the recipient have Zelle accounts.

1. Open the Zelle app on your phone or other mobile device and sign in.

Make sure that you confirm all of the details beforehand – once you've sent a payment over Zelle, you can only cancel it if the recipient hasn't yet set up their Zelle account, so be careful and only send money to those you know and trust.
