How to delete apps from the Launchpad menu on a Mac computer in 2 ways, depending on how you downloaded them
- You can delete apps from your Mac's Launchpad in two ways, depending on how you downloaded them.
- To delete an app that you downloaded from the App Store, click and hold on its icon, and then click the "X" that appears.
- For apps that you downloaded from the internet, you'll need to go through your Applications folder.
- You can't remove pre-installed apps, like Safari or Mail, from the Launchpad.
- Once an app is deleted from the Launchpad, it'll be completely removed from your computer.
Every Mac computer comes preloaded with dozens of different apps and services. One of these is Launchpad, a menu that functions as an easy-to-use folder for all your other apps. As soon as you install an app, it should be added to Launchpad.
This also works the other way around. Deleting an app from your computer will delete it from Launchpad, and deleting an app from Launchpad will delete it from your computer entirely.
There are two ways to delete apps from Launchpad. Which way you go will depend on how you downloaded that app in the first place - from the App Store or from the internet.
Just note that you can't remove pre-installed apps from the Launchpad, since you can't remove them from your computer.
How to delete App Store apps from Launchpad
This first category is for apps that you installed specifically through your Mac's App Store.
1. Open Launchpad. Its icon is gray, with a black silhouette of a rocket ship. If you can't find it, try searching for it.
2. Once you've found the app you want to delete, click and hold the app until apps start to jiggle. If you downloaded an app from the App Store, a small "X" icon will appear on the app's top-left corner.
3. Click the "X" icon on the app that you want to delete. Just remember that this will delete it both from Launchpad and your computer.
If the app you want to delete doesn't show an "X" icon, it means that you downloaded it through an internet browser. If that's the case, there's another way to delete it.
How to delete internet apps from Launchpad
This method can also be used to delete apps from the App Store. like above. But this is the only way to delete apps that come from the internet.
1. Click on the Finder icon, the square smiling face that's on the far-left side of your Dock by default. You can also open Finder by opening any folder.
2. In the open Finder window, click "Applications" on the left.
3. Click on the app you want to delete and drag it to the Trash icon on the far-right side of your Dock - alternatively, right-click on the app's icon and select "Move to Trash."
The app will be deleted from your computer - and Launchpad - immediately.
