Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has come out with a security guide to help its users manage their data and prevent others from accessing their personal data. The company has mentioned some steps users can take to protect their data from others.
This comes at a time when Apple is embroiled in a spat with Facebook over privacy changes in its iOS 14 update which the social media giant claims will hamper its ability to target ads at users.
Here are some tips that will help you to protect your data.
Update your software
It is important to keep your device up to data as software updates bring bug patches and fix vulnerabilities on your device.
Here’s how you can check for updated on your device:
For iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
If a new device signs-in using your Apple ID, you get a notification on your existing device along with the approximate location of the device. If you do not recognize the device, click on Don’t Allow to stop the user from signing in.
It is also important to change your password as this means someone else has access to your ID and password.
Change Apple ID password
Two-factor authentication is an additional layer of security and allows you to ensure that only you can access your Apple account.
For iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
Location Services allows you to manage which apps can access your location and when. You can also turn off your location and prevent all apps from accessing your location.
If you come across a third-party app that you don’t remember installing, it is suggested to remove the app from your device,

- If an update is available, tap on Download and Install.
- Go to System Preferences and click on Software Update.
- If an update is available, click on Upgrade Now.

- Then, click on the Turn On button next to Two-Factor Authentication.

- Now, go to Location Services.
- You can now turn off Location Services or manage location access for particular apps.
