A full list of Google voice commands you can use with Google Assistant to make everyday tasks easier

  • You can use Google voice commands with Google Assistant and Voice Match on compatible devices to perform certain tasks hands-free.
  • Google voice commands allow you to open account and privacy settings, set alarms and calendar reminders, answer questions, find travel directions, and more.

If you have an Android device or tablet that supports Google Assistant, you can use Google Voice Match to give your device commands. Whether you're looking for directions to a specific location, want to set an alarm or calendar reminder, or play music, you can do so by simply speaking the command aloud.

Of course, you'll need to know how to instruct Google to perform these tasks, so here is a list of common commands you can use to get the most out of your Google Assistant-enabled device.

Note: You'll need to say "Hey, Google…" before giving the commands below.

Google voice commands to control music

Google Assistant can not only play music on a linked music app (i.e. Spotify) but it can identify a song that's playing or even turn on a radio station.

  • Play music: "Play [artist]" or "play [song]."
  • Identify music: "What's this song?"
  • Play music radio: "Play [radio station]."
  • Read books or watch movies from Google Play: "Watch [movie]" or "Play [audiobook]."

Google voice commands to get directions

Google can use Google Maps to help you find addresses, navigate to certain places, and more.

  • Get directions: "Navigate to [place]" or "Directions to [place]."
  • Find places near your current location: "Where's the nearest gas station?" or "Where's the nearest coffee shop?"
  • Look up travel plans booked in your Gmail account: "What's the address of my hotel in [city]?"
  • Find attractions: "What are some things to do in [city]?"

Google voice commands to answer questions

Not only can Google Assistant tell you the date or time, it can also report on the weather, check stock prices, give word definitions, solve math equations, and even answer trivia questions.

  • Get word definitions: "What does [word] mean?"
  • Math equations: "What is the sum of [numbers]?"
  • Weather: "What's the temperature in [city]?"

Google voice commands to set reminders and alarms

Commands here are straightforward and incredibly useful.

  • Set alarm: "Set an alarm for [time]."
  • Set reminders: "Remind me to [task]."
  • Add events to calendar: "Create a calendar event for [occasion] on [date and time]."
  • Check calendar: "What's on my calendar for [date]?"

If you use Google Hangouts or are using Google Assistant on a device capable of making calls, using these commands will help you stay in touch.

  • Make phone calls: "Call [contact name]."
  • Send messages: "Send a Hangouts chat to [contact name]."
  • Send emails: "Send an email to [contact name] with the subject [subject] and message [message]."
