5 ways to troubleshoot if YouTube comments are not loading on your device
Tech3 min read
  • YouTube comments should usually appear under the video player on the YouTube website or mobile app, but if that's not happening, there are some simple ways to fix it.
  • Most of the time, you can simply reload the webpage. Also, make sure you have a working internet connection.
  • Other ways to restore your YouTube comments are to disable browser extensions and clear your browser's cache and cookies.

Even in a world filled with Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and a slew of other streaming video services, YouTube remains one of the most popular ways to watch video. It's free, which explains a lot of the site's popularity, but it's also a community, with an active comment section under the video player. So if YouTube comments are not loading in your web browser or mobile app, that's a problem. Here are the most common ways to troubleshoot YouTube when comments won't load.

Reload the webpage

Most of the time that you run into a problem with YouTube comments not loading, it's happening in a web browser. And the fastest way to fix this problem is to simply reload the page. You can click the reload button at the top of the browser screen or press the F5 key on the keyboard of a Windows computer. Often reloading the page is all it takes for comments to flow onto the page once again.

Make sure you have a stable internet connection

It's also possible that you have an unreliable, slow, or weak internet connection. Check your device's status bar to make sure you have a solid cellular or WiFi signal; if you don't, try again after you get better signal strength.

Clear your browser cache

Is your browser's cache corrupted? It's possible, and that might be keeping comments from loading properly. If you've gotten this far and YouTube still isn't loading properly, it might be time to clear the cache and cookies in your browser. The downside of this step is that it'll wipe out any saved login information, so you'll need to sign in to all your websites again. And in the short term, many websites may load more slowly because their pages aren't cached on your computer. But this can solve a lot of problems, so clear the cache on whatever browser you are using, whether it's Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Safari.

See if you have a conflict with a browser extension

Browser extensions are great — there are lots of features and capabilities you can add to your browser with the right extensions. But some extensions can cause conflicts with YouTube and its comments module. To test, disable all your extensions and see if YouTube comments work properly. If they do, you can re-enable extensions one at a time until you find the one that causes a conflict. Here is how to disable extensions in Chrome, though the process is similar in other browsers like Firefox and Microsoft Edge.

Restart the browser, app, or your entire device

Finally, another easy troubleshooting trick is to restart the system. If you're using YouTube in a web browser, you can close the browser and then restart it — or just use a different browser (switching, for example, from Chrome to Firefox). If you're using a mobile device, close the app and then restart it. Here is how to close an app on Android and close an app on iOS. Or, go for the "nuclear" option: Restart the entire device. Here's how to restart an iPhone. You can turn off many Android devices by pressing and holding the power button for several seconds or by pulling the control center down from the top of the screen and finding the power icon.
