How Fixable Is Your Tablet? Here's A Ranked List
Microsoft Surface Pro -- Microsoft's Professional tablet ranks among the hardest to repair because there is tons of adhesive that holds everything in place and opening the Surface Pro risks shearing the display cables.
Apple's iPad Mini also has excessive amounts of adhesive which makes repair difficult and hidden screws complicate taking the miniature tablet apart.
iPad 4 -- The iPad 4 has the same issues as the iPad Mini and Surface Pro, too much adhesive. Also, there is a very good chance you'll crack the glass when taking the tablet apart.
iPad 3 -- The iPad 3 also has a high chance of cracking the glass during dis assembly.
iPad 2 -- the iPad 2's battery is difficult to remove and then the same high chance of cracking the glass which seems to be common among iPads.
Microsoft Surface RT -- the cheaper version of Microsoft's Surface is difficult to open and the LCD is fused to the front glass making repairs pretty difficult.
Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch -- if you want to get inside the bigger Kindle Fire HD, you'll need a heat gun. The battery and cables are also glued to the glass.
Google Nexus 10 -- Google's 10-inch tablet has a very difficult opening process and several components are attached by both screws and glue.
Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet -- the Nook tablet has adhesive strips plus a ton of stand-alone adhesive, to replace the battery users will have to remove the device's motherboard.
Apple iPad 1 -- the only thing difficult about repairing the original iPad is removing and replacing the battery.
Google Nexus 7 -- Google Nexus 7 has a pretty good repair score, although the LCD does not separate from the front glass.
Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch -- The Nook Simple Touch is pretty easy to open and the battery is easy to replace. Issues may arise because the front glass, GlowLight LEDs, and digitizer are fused together.
Amazon Kindle Fire HD -- the Kindle Fire HD is easy to open and the battery is easy to remove. Amazon also color coded the screws and labeled cables inside. Just like all the other tablets, the LCD is fused to the glass making repairs on the screen more difficult.
Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 -- Samsung's mini tablet requires a heat gun to replace the LCD but the front glass is not fused to the LCD and it's easy to remove components.
Motorola Xoom -- the Xoom's LCD ad front glass are not fused together making repairs on the screen easy, but with 57 screws it may take a little while to to take everything apart.
Dell Streak -- Dell's 5-inch Streak tablet is easy to open and it's very simple to replace the battery. The LCD is fused to the glass.
Amazon Kindle Fire -- the original Kindle Fire is one of the easiest tablets to repair. It's easy to open and has standard Phillips screws but the glass panel is fused to the frame.
Dell XPS 10 -- the easiest tablet to repair is one of Dell's recent Windows 8 machines. It's easy to open and remove the battery. The only issue is that the LCD is fused to the glass.
