Gorgeous photos from SpaceX's historic rocket launch and landing
The SpaceX Falcon 9 took off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Brevard County, Florida. That's the rocket in the middle.
The Falcon 9 is able to deliver a large payload into space. For this launch, the cargo consisted of 11 satellites from a company called ORBCOMM.
Here's the rocket on the launch pad as SpaceX prepped for lift-off.
The launch was delayed a day due to poor weather on Sunday that could have interfered with the rocket's landing. Monday had clear skies, though.
Before lift off Monday night, Elon Musk shared a video of what the rocket looked like from the ground.

The rocket achieved lift-off at 8:29 p.m.

Lift-off was a success!
Here's the rocket on its way into orbit ...
At max-q pressure as it pushed through the atmosphere ...
And in space as it deploys its cargo.
The amazing aspect of the flight was that the Falcon 9 rocket was able to make it back down to land after going into orbit. This is what it looked like on return.

SpaceX released this amazing video of the rocket's landing.
