Remedy and Rockstar Games join hands to remake Max Payne 1 and 2

Remedy Entertainment Plc announced that it has reached an agreement with Rockstar Games to remake iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. The remake will be bundled in one title.

Taking one step ahead, Remedy Entertainment will be using Northlight Engine, the storytelling engine that was used in the recently-announced Alan Wake 2. Max Payne's remake will be coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Remedy made this announcement in a press release note saying, the game is still in the concept development stage, meaning that the remakes won’t be launching anytime soon. Alan Wake 2 also currently lacks a release date, though Remedy has committed to a release window of 2023.

According to the company, Remedy Entertainment approached Rockstar Games with the idea of remaking Max Payne. The remake will be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production meaning, a high-budget game by well-known developers and publishers. Rockstar Games will be funding the development.

Max Payne was released back in 2001. The story of a game is driven relentlessly by a man on the edge fighting for justice while uncovering plot-twists in New York. The game had violent gameplay including a bullet-time (slow-motion gunplay) effect. The Max Payne 2 was released in 2003 and the game was loved for its storyline and breathtaking cinematic gameplay for that era.
