Cupertino tech giant Apple is all set to host its annual Wonderlust event on September 12, where it is expected to launch the iPhone 15 series, the Watch Series 9 and the Watch Ultra 2. The company is also expected to announce new iOS 17 features at the event.

While the highlight of the event will be the iPhone 15 series, the Watch Series 9 will have a lot of eyes on it too. Apple’s smartwatches have improved progressively over the years and are now an important accessory as it also saves lives. Check out our video to learn more about this.

From detecting falls to internal bleeding

The Apple Watch’s features such as crash detection, fall detection and emergency SOS have helped save several lives. In an extremely fortunate incident, an Apple Watch 7 saved a person’s life by detecting fast heart rate, which ended up being due to severe internal bleeding. According to doctors, the person would have lost his life if he hadn’t reached a hospital on time.

In another instance, a man in Ontario fell from a ladder and stuck his head. His Apple Watch Series 8 detected the fall and informed his wife and emergency services. While he was unconscious, his wife was able to find him and take him to a hospital because of the notification.

Apple Watch Series 9 expectations and rumours

While there have been reports that the upcoming Apple Watch Series 9 will just be an iterative update, and not offer any significant upgrades, it is expected to come with several changes, including a new processor, new band and colour options.

Here’s what’s expected to change with the Apple Watch Series 9 –

New processor

The Apple Watch Series 9 is expected to be equipped with the S9 chipset, which is expected to be based on the Apple A15 chipset. It is expected to offer improved performance, reduce load times and improve efficiency.

New sensors

While there has not been any announcement from Apple, the company may equip the Watch Series 9 with an electrodermal activity (EDA) sensor to measure stress levels and a bioimpedance sensor to measure the user’s body composition. The company has reportedly been working on a non-invasive method to monitor glucose levels but this is unlikely to be offered with the Watch Series 9.

Improved battery life

An improvement in efficiency will also help increase the battery life. At the moment, it is not clear if Apple plans on upgrading the battery size but even without this, users may be able to get increased battery life out of the Apple Watch Series 9.

New band and colour options

If you are upgrading from an Apple Watch and are looking for something new, the Watch Series 9 is expected to be available in a new band option as well as a new colour option.

The Apple Watch Series 9 is expected to come with a new woven fabric band with a magnetic buckle. Additionally, users will also get an option to purchase a pink colour band, apart from the usual white, black and red options.

3D printed chassis

Apple is reportedly using 3D printing to create a chassis for the upcoming Apple Watch Series 9. This, according to the report, will reduce the material needed to create the chassis and reduce the time required. So, this will not only cut down production time, it will also reduce the costs for the company.
