Apple has released the MagSafe battery pack, a magnetic charger compatible with iPhone 12 series, at ₹10,900 in India. Apple’s new charging device comes eight months after the iPhone 12 series.

You can use the MagSafe wirelessly while travelling as it attaches magnetically to the back of compatible iPhones, making it easier to carry than traditional power banks. TheMagSafe battery pack features magnets that can comfortably align with the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max to provide external charging.

Here’s how the MagSafe battery pack works

With the MagSafe charger, you can get up to 15W of peak power on your iPhone 12. To charge the MagSafe charger, you will need to connect the pack to a 20 watt (W) or greater USB Type C power adapter. The actual power delivered may vary depending on the wattage of the power adapter and system conditions.

As per information provided on Apple’s support page, the MagSafe can charge your iPhone with up to 5W of power. You can also check the charge by adding the Batteries widget on MagSage-compatible iPhone that is running on the upcoming iOS 14.7 or later.

When charging with the MagSafe battery pack, you may get a notification that the iPhone will only charge up to 90%. You can change the settings in the Control Center by selecting the Lower Power Mode icon to charge past 90%.

Both the iPhone and MagSafe battery pack can be charged simultaneously by attaching any of the devices to a power adapter. However, if you charge both the iPhone and MagSafe at the same time, the iPhone might charge to 80% or higher before the MagSafe begins charging.

Apple has not disclosed any information on how much power the MagSafe packs, but an image of the battery pack on Apple website shows it features a 1460mAh battery that can add additional hours to the battery life of iPhone 12 series devices.

The MagSafe battery pack will be available for sale from July 19 and it is priced at $99 (approx. ₹7,400) in the US. It has been listed for sale in India, and will be available at a later date for ₹10,900.

The battery pack doesn’t come with a power adapter or a Lightning cable. The cost of these accessories will add up to the cost of the device.
