Kindle Oasis is the 8th version of the Kindle family. The first Kindle launched in 2007 and the last version was released in 2014.
The newest Kindle is different from the past versions in many ways.
First off, it’s no longer just a flat, rectangular-shaped device.
It comes with a curved back, giving it a firm grip on one side. The thinnest point is just 3.4 mm thick, while the other end is 8.5 mm thick.
The device weighs 4.6 ounces, and is a little bigger than a regular coffee plate. This should give a better idea of how big it is.
The screen also automatically rotates depending on which hand you hold the device with.
But perhaps the bigger change is that it comes with a rechargeable cover. The cover has a bigger battery that magnetically attaches to the Kindle device, giving it a dual battery charging system.
The bigger battery used in the case lasts roughly 9 weeks. The smaller battery that’s embedded in the Kindle device itself lasts about 2 weeks.
The cover comes in 3 different colors.
Amazon also updated the software that runs the device. It comes with more font choices and an upgraded design that makes it easy to find new books or search for certain parts of the book.
Amazon now has over 4.4 million e-books available for the Kindle, with 1.1 million of them released over the past year. It had only 90,000 e-books when the Kindle first launched in 2007.
The name Oasis comes from the idea of creating a “sanctuary,” where readers can really immerse themselves into the content, Marc Walliser, Amazon’s director of industrial design, told Business Insider.
