WhatsApp wants to give you more control over disappearing messages with new features. You can now enable disappearing messages by default for all chats. WhatsApp has also added new duration timings for disappearing messages. This feature was introduced back in 2020 and it automatically deleted messages seven days after they were sent in chats.Default disappearing messages, as the name suggests, will automatically delete messages in all chats once the feature is enabled. So if you turn this feature on then any chat started with a new person or even existing chats will be deleted. This doesn’t affect older chats and those messages won’t be deleted. You can also choose the duration after which messages should automatically disappear from your chats.
Here’s how to use the new WhatsApp features
Open WhatsApp on your Android phone or iPhone.
Go to Settings then tap Account and Privacy.

Select the duration you want for all your chats to disappear.
You can follow the same steps and select ‘Off’ to disable this feature.
WhatsApp has also added new durations for disappearing messages. Earlier there was only one duration of seven days but now you can choose between 24 hours or 90 days. You can turn on disappearing messages for individual or group chats on WhatsApp. All you have to do is open the chat, tap on the chat info, then select ‘Disappearing Messages’. Turn the feature on and choose the duration.
The new features do give you more control over disappearing messages but there are some limitations. If the chat remains unopened in the notification panel, the deleted messages will still be visible. This feature also doesn’t apply to quoted messages and forwarded messages. So even if the original message is deleted, it will still be visible.
