After groups, the Facebook-owned WhatsApp is expected to soon introduce communities, a new feature that is aimed at offering more control to group admins.

As per a report by WaBetaInfo, Communities will allow group admins to create sub-groups or a collection of groups. Users will be able to create community chats just like the current groups. It is also protected by end-to-end encryption.

The icon of the community is slightly different from groups. It has a squared icon with rounded edges, unlike groups that have a round icon. This has probably been done to easily differentiate between groups and communities.

As per the report, admins will be able to send messages in these communities and create a collection of groups related to the community. This might be particularly useful for businesses and educational institutions as it will allow them to create communities for departments or classes.

Communities are expected to offer more control to admins, allowing them to control who can message, who can join which group and more. Similar to groups, admins will be able to add members to the community using their contact or by simply sharing a joining link or QR code with them.

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to delete messages that have been sent months ago, removing the current time restrictions on deleting messages.

Apart from this, the popular messaging app is also working on a new video playback interface for iOS users for videos shared from YouTube, Instagram and other platforms. This feature will allow iOS users to play the video in full screen, move the picture-in-picture mode easily and quickly end the video.
