In addition to messages, we were not able to place an audio or video call on WhatsApp. I also tried to share a status on WhatsApp but even that was stuck at “Sending”.

The issue with WhatsApp reportedly began around 12:30 with users reporting issues while sending messages to group chats.

WhatsApp’s parent company Meta has said that it is aware about the issue and is working on restoring services for everyone.

In addition to the mobile app, WhatsApp Web and the desktop application has also stopped working.

"The brief outage was a result of a technical error on our part and has now been resolved," a Meta spokesperson said in a statement to Business Insider India.

First major outage since 2021

This is the first major outage for WhatsApp since 2021. Interestingly, the last outage also occurred in October and took nearly 6 hours to be resolved. During the October 2021 outage, Meta’s apps, including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Messenger were down for several hours. The current outage has only affected WhatsApp.
