WhatsApp beta reveals rich link previews to display link details in status updates

Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp has introduced several new features recently, including emoji reactions, the ability to send files up to 2GB, increased group size and more. The company is now working on a feature that will improve its status updates.

The popular messaging app is reportedly working on bringing rich link previews for text status updates on its platform. According to a report by WaBetaInfo, beta testers have spotted rich link previews on WhatsApp’s iOS app.

What are rich link previews?

Link previews are the pop-up box that is visible when you share a link in a message or a status update. Rich link previews offer more details about the shared link. This includes an image, the website’s name and information about the website.

While this does not change much, it offers a preview of the link that has been shared, allowing viewers to decide whether they want to open it or not.

The feature is currently being tested in the iOS app and should also be available for Android and desktops in the future.

Other upcoming features

There are several features that are currently being tested by WhatsApp. One of the major upcoming features is the Companion Device, which will allow users to use one WhatsApp account on more than one smartphone.

In addition to this, WhatsApp is also working on bringing download timers, polls and an improved drawing tool to the app.

An earlier WaBetaInfo report had also revealed that WhatsApp is working on bringing quick emoji reactions to status updates, allowing users to react to status updates, similar to what is offered on Instagram Stories.
