WhatsApp voice note just got an upgrade with six new features

WhatsApp is all set to launch new features for voice messaging in the coming weeks. In a blog post, WhatsApp announced an update for the voice notes feature, making it seamless for its users. New features include listening to a voice message outside of the chat allowing you to multitask or respond to other messages, pause/resume recording, draft preview, and much more.

WhatsApp first launched a voice messaging feature back in 2013 and it changed the way people used the app. The sudden upgrade to the voice notes feature is being attributed to improving speed and usability for people to have more expressive conversations.

Pause/ Recording

With the new update, you can now pause and resume recording while sending voice messages. Till now, users didn’t have an option to pause a recording in the middle and resume it later. So you essentially had to record a fresh one for any changes.

Out of chat window playback

It allows you to listen to voice messages outside the chat window similar to watching YouTube videos shared on WhatsApp. Moreover, you can respond to and read messages while listening to voice messages that sit at the top of the screen.

Waveform Visualization

This minor update will change the playback bar to a waveform. New animation for voice messages is here - a waveform. The older voice messages will display the old bar form.

Draft preview of voice message

Now preview your voice message before sending them.

Fast playback at 1.5 or 2x

While playing a voice message you will see an icon to the right showing 1x but with this update, you can switch from 1.5x speed to 2x speed. This handy feature will work on forwarded as well as regular voice messages.

Remember playback

If you pause while listening to a voice message, you can resume where you left off when you return to the chat.
