PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) may no longer be available on the Google Play Store, but India’s ban against Chinese apps has paved the way for others to make their mark — like Garena Free Fire: 3voltuion.
India has banned over 200 Chinese apps over the last three months. In June, when the first ban got implemented, the Bytedance-owned short video streaming mobile app TikTok got taken off the shelves. And we witnessed a rise in alternatives, especially those made by Indian game developers.
However, when it comes to battle royale games like PUBG, there is a dearth of alternatives in the Indian market. Garena Free Fire and Call of Duty may be favoured, but one is developed by a company based in Singapore and the other in the US.
Nonetheless, the move has given Indian developers to step up their game like nCore Games, a Bengaluru-based technology company, which has plans to launch FAU-G soon.
Meanwhile, Garena Free Fire is currently the number one free gaming app, followed by Critical Action: Gun Strike Ops - Shooting Game and Ludo King.
