WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps with billion of users mostly because it is completely free to use, has no ads and is supported on most devices. Developers had initially released the messaging app for simple communication but it took the internet by storm. The popularity of WhatsApp has got developers to keep upgrading it for more and more features.

WhatsApp has released a bunch of features that make the chatting experience more interesting. Apart from these features, there are several tweaks and tricks that you can do with WhatsApp to make your communication seamless.

Here are some tips and tricks that you should use to get the most out of WhatsApp.

Create italicized, bold, or strikethrough text

Put an asterisk (*) at the beginning and end of any word or sentence to make it bold. For instance type *hello* to make it bold. The same goes for italics. Use underscore (_) on either side of text or sentence. To strike through text add tilde (~) to the beginning and end of text or passage.

Stop auto-downloading via mobile data

This trick can let you save precious mobile data. First, disable WhatsApp’s ability to download media on mobile data. For Android devices, go to Settings then Storage and Data and scroll down to Media auto-download field. For iOS devices, go to settings then Storage and Data. Scroll down to Media Auto-Download and switch to never. From this section, choose what gets downloaded when you are on Wifi or mobile data.

Limit WhatsApp call data
WhatsApp call is a handy feature and it doesn’t consume a lot of mobile data. Still, if you want to save more, go to Settings then Storage > Data and then enable Use less data for calls.

Request your account info

Like Twitter, WhatsApp also allows you to download a ZIP file of your account information. To do this, go to Settings, then Account and Request account info. At last tap on Request report.

Remember, if you re-register your account or change your mobile number or device request will be cancelled.

Email Chat logs
You can already back up your chat history to the cloud but if you like to keep a record of a specific chat log or send it to someone then you can email the chat log via WhatsApp.

Go to Settings > Chats > Chat history and then tap on Export chat. A pop-up menu will appear allowing you to choose a specific group or contact’s chat history. Once you have selected the chat, WhatsApp will ask to include media or send text and emojis. Once you have made your decision you can Email the chat log in .txt format.

Activate two-step verification
Usually, WhatsApp asks for your number and one-time pin when changing the devices. The two-step verification provides extra security. To enable it go to Setting > Account > Two-step verification. You’ll be asked to create a six-digit pin whenever you add WhatsApp to a new phone.

Disable read receipts

If you prefer to dodge your contacts you can disable read receipts in simple steps. Go to Setting then Account and Privacy. Untick the box labelled as Read receipts.

See who read your group message
To see who read your group text you have to hold on your message to highlight it, then tap the three-dot menu, then Info. From here, you can see who has and hasn’t viewed your message.

Tweak your last seen

The last seen function shows the last time you appeared online. To tweak your last seen go to Settings, then Account and Privacy. You will see multiple options like Everyone where everyone with your number can see when you were last online and other options like My contacts, My contacts except, and Nobody.
