  • Spotify has announced the Family Plan in India at a price of ₹179 per month.
  • The plan is 83% than Spotify’s Family Plan in the US that costs $14.99 (₹ 1066).
  • Despite this Spotify’s Family Plan is still more expensive than Apple Music’s Family Plan subscription of ₹149 per month.
Spotify, the music streaming giant, finally announced its Family Plan for India at a price of ₹179 per month.

Keeping in mind the highly competitive Indian music streaming industry and the country’s price sensitive customers, this plan is 83% cheaper in India than in the US where it costs $14.99 (₹ 1066).

That’s a difference of ₹887.

New users can sign up for a 3-month free trial of the Family Plan before choosing to subscribe to it.

The price reduction may look impressive but Spotify’s Family Plan is still costlier than what Apple has to offer. Apple Music’s plan for families is ₹20 cheaper at ₹149 a month.

What’s so special about the Family Plan?

Family plans, on Apple Music and Spotify, give up to six family members premium access to their respective music streaming services. That means no ads on the platform.

Every individual in the family will have their own account, so that their preferences are personalised. However, it will only generate one master bill.

The master account holder also has access to parental controls if they want to restrict the access of other accounts. They can also add and remove remove members at anytime.

Spotify will also curate a ‘Family Mix’ based on the music preferences of the family, which everyone can access.

It should be noted that offline access — the option to download songs and play them later without internet connectivity — will only be available for three devices.
