Help for the visually impaired: How to use MANI to identify denomination of currency notes

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched a new app called MANI to help visually impaired people identify currency notes. The app supports both English and Hindi and works even without internet.
The app has been designed keeping in mind its specific user base. In addition to showing the denomination on the phone, the MANI app will also identify the denomination through an audio notification and vibrations. To help users with hearing impairments, the app has predefined vibrations for different denominations.

How to use MANI to identify currency denomination
- Download the MANI app for Android or iOS.
- Now, open the app and you will be able to see or hear the initial instructions.
- Give the app permission to use camera and record audio.
- Select either English or Hindi as your language by tapping on either of the buttons.
- In this page, you can also tap on ‘Voice command’ to enable voice commands.
- Now, you will be asked to select your impairment from – ‘Visual’, ‘Visual and hearing’ and ‘None’.
- Now, you can scan the bank note to identify the denomination.
- The app will provide you the denomination in three ways – text, audio notification and vibration.

- ₹5 – One vibration.
- ₹10 – Two vibrations.
- ₹20 – Three vibrations.
- ₹50 – Four vibrations.
- ₹100 – Five vibrations.
- ₹200 – Six vibrations.
- ₹500 – Seven vibrations.
- ₹2,000 – Eight vibrations.
