How to move WhatsApp group to Signal app

Facebook-owned WhatsApp recently announced that it is updating its terms of service and privacy policies from February 8, 2021. Users who do not agree to its new policies will not be able to use the app, as per the company.

WhatsApp has faced a lot of backlash for its new policies, and there have been calls to boycott the app. Several people, including Elon Musk, have asked users to shift to Signal, an open-source messaging app. The app has now become one of the top free apps in several countries, including India.

Most of us have been using WhatsApp for years and are a part of multiple groups with friends and family members. So, if you wish to move to Signal permanently, it’s important to move your WhatsApp groups to Signal messaging app.

There is no easy way to move your WhatsApp groups to Signal by pressing a button. You will have to create a new group in Signal and add the members again. However, there is an easy way to do this.

How to move WhatsApp groups to Signal

Download and install Signal app



  • The first thing you need to do is download and install the Signal app on your Android or iOS device.
  • Now, register on the app and complete your profile.

Create a group

  • Click on the three dots menu at the top right corner.
  • Now, you have the option to add contacts who have joined the Signal app to this group.
  • Enter the group name and click on ‘Create’.

Create a group link



Once you have created a group, you can create a group link that allows you to easily add members to this group.

  • Open the group and click on the three dots at the top right corner.
  • Now, click on group settings.
  • Then, click on the Group link.
  • Now, enable Group link.

Share group link on WhatsApp

Now you can share this group link with your friends and family on WhatsApp so that they can easily join your new Signal group.

Share group link, reset Group link and approve new members

To share the group link, click on share and select from one of the available options such as share via signal, copy, QR code and the share button.

For additional security, you have the option to enable approval for the group link. If you think that the group link has been shared with outsiders by someone, you have the option to reset the group link and create a new Group link.
