WhatsApp has allowed users on iPhones to unlock the app using Touch ID or Face ID from some time now. It finally added fingerprint unlock for the Android version. Smartphone makers such as OnePlus and Xiaomi have a built-in app locker so this feature may not seem that important to those who own them. However, if you wish to use WhatsApp’s fingerprint lock on your device, follow the below steps.

How to set up fingerprint lock on WhatsApp
- Make sure you are on the latest version of WhatsApp.
- Open WhatsApp on your phone.
- Click on the overflow button (three dots) at the top right corner.
- Now, click on ‘Settings’.
- Then go to Account > Privacy > Fingerprint lock.
- Now, enable the toggle for ‘Unlock with fingerprint’.
- Once you have enabled fingerprint lock, you can set the duration after which you will have to authenticate using your fingerprint to unlock WhatsApp.
- You can choose between ‘Immediately’, ‘After 1 minute’ and ‘After 30 minutes’.
- Finally, you have the option to choose whether the new message notifications show the message content and sender while the app is locked.
