All the cool things you can do with the new MacBook Pro
It comes in this new color called Space Gray.
It comes in two sizes: 13-inch or 15-inch.
There's also a cheaper model of the 13-inch MacBook Pro that has traditional function keys instead of the Touch Bar. It starts at $1,499.
The 13-inch model with Touch Bar starts at $1,799.
The 15-inch model with Touch Bar starts at $1,999.
There are no traditional ports. Instead, there are new ports called Thunderbolt 3.
Thunderbolt 3 is used for everything: charging, connecting accessories, and video output to external displays. It also works with the new USB-C standard that's starting to show up in more gadgets.
There's also a traditional headphone jack.
The Thunderbolt ports mean you'll have to buy new cables and adapters to connect your gadgets.
Apple decided to temporarily slash prices on USB-C accessories to help ease the transition to the new standard.
The trackpad is much larger than before.
But the real story here is the Touch Bar. It's a touchscreen at the top of the keyboard that replaces traditional function keys with digital keys.
The Touch Bar keys change depending on the app you're using. Let's check out a few examples of how that works.
Here's the standard view for function keys. You can customize the keys on the left side of the screen.
There's a dedicated button for Siri on the far right.
You can expand the buttons on the right side of the Touch Bar to bring up the standard function keys like brightness and volume controls.
In Safari, you see forward/back buttons, a search bar, and a button to launch a new tab.
When you launch a new Safari tab, you get buttons that let you launch your favorite bookmarks.
When watching a video on the web, a controller pops up that lets you play/pause or scrub through video.
In Mail, there are lots of clever function keys. You can quickly sort through mail or change the formatting of your messages.
Photos gives you a bunch of standard editing tools for cropping, adding filters, and more.
You can also get a preview of what your photo will look like on the Touch Bar before you apply a filter.
The Touch Bar can suggest words as you're typing. It's a little odd though since most people are looking at the main display while they type. On the other hand, it doubles as a handy spell checker.
You can access all your emojis right from the Touch Bar in iMessage.
There's a Touch ID fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button at the end of the Touch Bar.
You can use Touch ID to unlock the MacBook Pro without typing in a password or pay for purchases on some shopping sites in the Safari browser.
