FPS or first-person shooter games are those where you aim and shoot at targets and the gameplay is seen from the shooter’s viewpoint. This is a subgenre of the broader shooter game category and here, everything from combat to action is viewed from a first-person perspective. So you’re basically the protagonist experiencing and controlling the shooter.

When it comes to FPS games there are a range of titles available to play on different platforms. We’ve rounded up some of the best FPS games you can play on the PS4.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Call of Duty is one of the most popular FPS games out there which makes Black Ops Cold War a must-try. Set during the early 1980s of the Cold War, the game’s plot focuses on the alleged Soviet spy Perseus and you play as Bell. This game also features Black Ops characters including Alex Mason, Frank Woods, and Jason Hudson, and Mason. It’s the sixth installment in the Black Ops series, and the 17th in the Call of Duty series. If you’ve been a regular Call of Duty player then this one is highly recommended.

Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2 is the sequel to Titanfall, and the game is set five years after the destructive Battle of Demeter in the first game. Here, you play as the Militia Rifleman Jack Cooper who is forced to become a pilot. The journey follows Cooper who bonds with his mentor's Titan BT-7274 and together they have to stop Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) from launching a superweapon that is threatening to destroy the Militia planet Harmony. Titanfall 2 is recommended for sci-fi fans, and those who played the first game is highly recommended to try this out too.

Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is the sequel to Borderlands 2, and the fourth installment in the Borderlands series. You can play the game in single-player or multiplayer mode to complete quests and side missions. The game’s plot focuses on four new Vault Hunters recruited by the Crimson Raiders of Pandora to stop twins Troy and Tyreen Calypso and their followers from harnessing the power of the alien Vaults spread across the galaxy. Borderlands 3 is a fun FPS game to play, and it’s a must-try in the series.

Battlefield 1

Another old and popular FPS series, Battlefield features Battlefield 1 which is the 15th installment in the series. The game is set during World War I and can be played in single-player and multiplayer modes. The single-player campaign takes place across six different war stories, people and aspects of the Great War. There are a total of six missions to complete in the single-player campaign. In the multiplayer campaign, there are 120 ranks and a total of 60 medals to grab. Battlefield 1 is a must-try in the series, and recommended for those who are into war-themed games.

Metro Exodus

This game also has war themes but it’s for those who enjoy post-apocalyptic themes. Metro Exodus takes place in the year 2035, and one year after the events of Metro: Last Light. It’s now a post-apocalyptic Earth that has been devastated by a nuclear war. The game also continues the story from Metro: Last Light's "Redemption" ending. This PS4 FPS game is recommended for those who are interested in post-apocalyptic worlds.

Killzone Shadow Fall

Killzone Shadow Fall is the sixth game in the series, and it takes place 30 years after the events of Killzone 3. In Shadow Fall there are new characters and you play as Lucas Kellan who is a Shadow Marshal. The story follows Kellan investigating a rising threat in the ongoing war between Vekta and Helghast. Killzone Shadow Fall is another PS4 FPS game that you can consider.
